The shared classroom is the place where different students arrive after being sent there by one of the teachers from that floor or are taken by the shared classroom teacher. Students arrive there to work, finish something ,practice, improve something that they need, go beyond what is expected or calm down.
The agreements and rules for the shared classroom are visible to all on one of the walls, preferably behind the teachers, both in English and Spanish. All the shared classroom teachers share the same agreements.
The shared classroom teachers lead the work culture and the purpose of this space and all other teachers support and encourage these agreements among the students.Teachers from the shared classroom are expected to help students develop :
- Fine and gross motor skills, such as: Gross: yoga, dancing, warm-up, circuits. Fine: grip, cut, paint, color.
- Social and emotional development.
- Integrated curriculum: integrated project with English, Math, Science and Spanish.
- New vocabulary for each lesson or unit.
- Thinking routines during our classes and they were posted on the shared classroom wall.
- Make agreements with teachers and students about the quality work to be displayed on the walls and the topic of the integrated project or mini projects for the decoration.
